JISC Collections announce: Info for Education from IHS
Page last modified on 05 April 2022, at 05:18 PM (initially posted on 1 April 2022)
There is an unresolved issue with this SP, in that they are unable to support the eduPersonTargetedID
attribute to offer personalisation to users in their service, and are requiring IdP operators to release attributes containing personal information such as mail
, givenName
and sn
to access the service. This requires passing of personal information about users, which Jisc believe is unnecessary and not in the spirit of our Technical Recommendations for Participants or our recommendations for use of personal data within the federation. The Trust and Identity team (supporting the UK federation) and Jisc Collections are continuing discussions related to this matter, and with the service provider.
- Technical Recommendations for Particpants (See Section 7.2 Attributes, Privacy and Data Protection)
- Recommendations for use of Personal Data
- Our partners in the InCommon federation have the followng page on Why is email address not an appropriate user identifier?

WAYFless URL
This hasn't been looked at in detail, but something like:
<IDP SSO URL>?providerId=https://uk.ihs.com/entity&shire=https://www.ihsti.com/logon/federatedaccess/UKFedAuthRec.aspx&target=http://www.ihsti.com/Logon/productList.aspx
should work.
This service is available for subscription to UK HE, FE & research councils through JISC Collections.
Note:
15. On the user’s first visit to this service's WAYF page, a cookie is dropped on the user’s machine with the entityID of the IdP they selected. Subsequently, the WAYF will look for this cookie and automatically redirect the user to their IdP if it is found, so in some respects it acts like a WAYFless URL. The URL is generated dynamically from the last refresh of the online metadata, so any change in the URL of the IdP or SP authentication points should be picked up automatically.
